We’re well into the second season of &lt;em&gt;PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale&lt;/em&gt;, and there are already some serious All-Stars out there wrecking shop online. You might have noticed some of the stronger players fitted with fancier Belts and Titles than others. Let’s shed some light on Belts!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Belts are used to determine which Titles you are awarded at the end of the season, and Belt Points are used to determine your Belt in any given season. The progression of Belts starts with White, followed by Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Brown, then Black. The Black Belt is the baddest Belt of them all, and should be your goal every season if you want everyone to know that you mean business.&lt;!-- more --&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Players must play a series of “placement matches” at the start of the season to determine where they’ll start in Belt progression, kind of like a placement test in college. Once a player’s ideal placement is determined, they will be given the appropriate Belt and 50 Belt Points. Playing ranked games will result in Belt Points gained/lost, and the amount of Belt Points gained/lost is determined by your skill level relative to your opponents.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you manage to reach 100 Belt Points, you will be promoted to the next Belt! But beware, falling to 0 Belt Points will demote you to the previous Belt. In a nutshell, you want to bring your A-game to matches that are stacked with players that have a higher Belt than you. Here’s the math:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you are within 50 Belt Points of your opponent: +3 for beating an opponent, -3 for getting beat.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If your opponent is more than 50 BP above you: +5, -1&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you are more than 50 BP above your opponent: +1, -5&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Note that players can be within 50 BP across Belts (i.e. a Purple Belt with 90 BP is within 20 of a Red Belt with 10 BP).&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;In FFA, every opponent gives or takes away BP depending on placement except when you tie.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Since the Black Belt is the highest Belt possible, over-achievers can accrue more than 100 Belt Points for their Black Belt.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;At the end of each season, Titles are awarded based on the Belt you’ve earned and the process starts over for the next season. Note that rarer Titles are awarded based on multiple Belt placings, so consistency is key! Rocking a hard earned Title that requires a healthy amount of high-tier Belt season finishes (such as The God of Agony or The Grand Master) is sure to get your opponents &lt;strong&gt;shook&lt;/strong&gt; before the match even starts.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;My advice to prospective All-Stars reading this is to jump online into some ranked games and put in some work; those Belts aren’t going to earn themselves! And for you Black Belts, stay hungry and be the first to collect all Titles. Don’t forget that Free-For-All and 2v2 have different belts with their own Titles, so keep battling to the top! As most fighting game players know, a &amp;#8220;combo&amp;#8221; is defined as a series of attacks that can neither be blocked nor escaped once the initial attack connects. Basically the victim remains locked in hit stun until the combo ends, which can take a very long time in some games.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In PASBR, whenever a character gets hit by an attack sequence that adds up to 100 AP in one combo, they automatically enter the infinite avoidance state. They&amp;#8217;re then ejected at a 45° angle and remain invincible the entire way up and down until they land—unless they attack or perform some other offensive action to relinquish their invincibility before landing.&lt;!-- more --&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When infinite avoidance occurs, whichever character triggered it receives a 30 AP bonus. Ideally, you want to perform a combo that adds up to 99 AP, then finish it with your strongest attack (which earns around 30 AP for most characters). That would cause the AP Burst to 129 AP, and you&amp;#8217;d end up with 159 AP after the bonus.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Of course, most characters can&amp;#8217;t quite reach 159 AP because the vast majority of attacks are valued in increments of 5 or 10 AP. However, many characters can rack up 90 or 95 AP, making it possible to achieve &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA4_ZjssKH8" target="_blank"&gt;150 or 155 AP combos&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If two characters are beating up on one opponent in a 2v2 or FFA match, infinite avoidance is triggered when their attacks combine for 100 AP, not when they reach 100 AP independently. Only the character who performs the final hit to trigger the AP Burst will receive the 30 AP bonus.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There&amp;#8217;s one major exception I should mention. Certain attacks in the game don&amp;#8217;t cause hit stun, such as Sir Daniel&amp;#8217;s D+Circle flames or Dante&amp;#8217;s Triangle bullets. We call these &amp;#8220;Twitch&amp;#8221; reactions, and Twitch reactions neither count against the infinite avoidance limit, nor can they trigger AP burst. That&amp;#8217;s why &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_JUp_dipRI" target="_blank"&gt;Dante&lt;/a&gt; sometimes seems to break the rules, but it&amp;#8217;s kind of his reward for having such a specialized Triangle button which isn&amp;#8217;t useful in direct combat.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Our primary reason for implementing this system was to prevent players from getting caught in combos for painfully long periods of time. We were able to preserve PASBR&amp;#8217;s open-ended, freestyle combo system, while ensuring that no player has to surrender control of their character for longer than 5–10 seconds at a time.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;However, this system is more than a failsafe. The AP burst mechanic provides an interesting strategic choice for advanced players: Do you want to end your combo early and keep your opponent nearby for a wakeup mixup or air tech reset? Or do you want to maximize your AP gain at the cost of ejecting your opponent to safety?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Furthermore, setting the infinite avoidance limit at 100 AP basically ensures that it takes at least two clean hits to combo into super at the beginning of a match—or after performing a level 3 super. That&amp;#8217;s because every level 1 super attack in the game costs at least 100 AP.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Even if players were to discover 159 AP combos with every character in the game, it&amp;#8217;s extremely difficult to cross the threshold from 99 AP to 100 AP without triggering AP burst. Dante is the biggest potential exception to this rule, which is why his level 1 super costs 150 AP.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Overall, Battle Royale&amp;#8217;s AP burst system ensures a more balanced gameplay experience for all characters—while presenting players with interesting tactical choices. Best of all, it allows PASBR&amp;#8217;s combo system to remain open-ended, providing ample room for freestyle creativity.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We had a problem with our matchmaking server logic where matching was occurring too quickly widening the physical and skill requirements so fast that players of all skill levels were being matched together causing tremendous strain on the server. A fix addressing this issue was made to the server on 11/28/12, which should have resolved network issues for many.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We have also issued Patches 1.02 and 1.03 that solve anumber of network issues.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Some of the ongoing network problems are related to NAT router issues. We are continuing to work very hard on fixing this as soon as possible for these users. If you believe this issue is affecting you, some have found success by opening up their routers and changing their NAT type.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—I saw Nathan Drake use his level 3 super but after the super ended, everyone stayed as ghouls permanently, so he kept attacking and killing until the match was over.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Toro&amp;#8217;s Oni marshmallows blit in and out of appearance whenever used.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Characters randomly turn into prize bubbles even though Sackboy is not in the match.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Characters are respawning and invincible for the rest of the match.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—4 player matches start with only 3 players, but then the one that isn&amp;#8217;t visible ends up winning.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These are known synchronization issues that were addressed in Patch 1.02. There may still be issues within matches involving extremely high-lag players. The matchmaking server update should reduce the amount of laggy games by improving search for high-quality connections but there&amp;#8217;s not much we can do about invited players with poor connections. We are continually improving the online play and if new issues arise, we will address them in a subsequent patch.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—The game won&amp;#8217;t let me advance in Arcade mode. The screen goes black.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Try deleting Save Data and Game Data and reinstalling the latest Patch when prompted. Don&amp;#8217;t worry about your save data being lost. As long as you play while signed into PSN, the Cloud Save will be re-downloaded the next time you boot up, and your progress will return.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—I pre-ordered the game from &amp;lt;retailer&amp;gt; but did not receive my pre-order costume code.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The pre-order codes have been an issue for some of our retailers, but this should be fixed now. Make sure you check your receipt and your email inbox, as that is the customary distribution method for the codes. &lt;p&gt;We are aware that some players ran into issues with season 1 belts. This should be fixed now and should work properly for the next season. Please also note that at the end of each month, titles are awarded based on your progression in ranked matchmaking, and all records will be reset for next season.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Kratos/PaRappa/Jak etc. are overpowered. Can you please nerf them?&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Balance is hugely important to us, and we have spent a great deal of our development time balancing the gameplay between all of the characters. However, we also believe it&amp;#8217;s important to give players enough time to explore the game and find their own counters to seemingly dominant strategies. Releasing balance patches too quickly can stifle that creativity, so we&amp;#8217;re taking a more steady, patient approach when it comes to character tuning.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We shall continue to gather telemetry data from the millions of online matches being played. If any of the characters are shown to be greatly overpowered, it will be readily apparent, and we will make adjustments as needed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—I noticed the Jak and Daxter easter egg on BlackRock is wrong. The precursor text/language is supposed to spell out cannon, but the &amp;#8220;o&amp;#8221; in cannon is a &amp;#8220;w&amp;#8221; in BlackRock Stadium.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Fat Princess&amp;#8217; Villagers freeze in the air forever after laying a bomb.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—On Heihachi&amp;#8217;s level 2 super, Kuma does his little dance then freezes after finishing the super.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This is a known issue with PAL and should be addressed in Patch 1.04.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—Character is randomly killing everyone on screen without any supers being used.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We have not seen this issue but will investigate, unless this was occurring with the new Medusa Head Item which CAN KILL!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;hr&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—The R2 button on my Madcatz Street Fighter 4 collectors edition fightstick does not work.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;br/&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;—I have a Hori V3 SA and MadCatz Tournament Pro stick and neither of their L2 and R2 buttons are working.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Unfortunately we cannot test every Arcade Stick on the market, even though our internal team might want to. We have tested many Arcade Sticks, and they all work. In these instances go into the controller menu and try remapping the R2 and L2 buttons to different buttons and see if that gets you back in the fight. Nevertheless, if you are having this issue, please contact us, and we will investigate.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;One of our greatest assets has always been our awesome fanbase. From the huge crowd that came out to the LA Beatdown event, to all the competitors that participated in our first tournament at New York Comic-Con, to all the people that came to the Sony press event in Toronto, to all the PSN users that helped us out by participating in the betas, we couldn&amp;#8217;t help but feel the anticipation from the fans. Big shouts to the online community for all the support and for making my job easier by spreading the good word. Every forum post celebrating a new character, every fan Wiki entry, every weird Omar gif contributed to something greater than just the release of a new video game.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Toward the end of the evening, some of the SuperBot team faced off against each other for some pretty epic matches. As you might imagine, our own Community Manager, Daniel Maniago (aka Clockw0rk) chalked up the most W&amp;#8217;s and put the rest of us to shame. That got us thinking&amp;#8230; Is there anyone better than Clockw0rk? Is he &lt;em&gt;unbeatable&lt;/em&gt;? We thought it unfair to grant him such a lofty title without first giving the community a shot to take him down. So we hatched a quick plan to put him to the test:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Tonight from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM PDT&lt;/strong&gt;, Daniel will be on PSN under the nickname &amp;#8220;Strider_Doom&amp;#8221; and playing random free-for-all matches. In fairness, of the ten matches that Clockw0rk was able to log, he won all but two. Unbeatable? Nay. But don&amp;#8217;t take our word for it. This challenge will be issued again for all to witness. &lt;p&gt;Two weeks ago, &lt;a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/08/29/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-public-beta-incoming/" target="_blank"&gt;this post&lt;/a&gt; on the EU PS Blog announced that a week-long limited public beta for &lt;em&gt;PlayStation All-Stars&lt;/em&gt; would begin for European regions on 11 September. As many of you are already aware, that did not happen as planned. Late yesterday afternoon we were informed by SCEE that the beta would be delayed by one week, and that the selected participants had already received their invitation emails explaining as such. We announced this on our Twitter feed and Facebook page as soon as we heard.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This morning we again learned new information. Although it is true that the EU beta will indeed be delayed by one week, the emails to its selected participants &lt;strong&gt;have not yet been sent&lt;/strong&gt;. Gavin Russell of SCEE offered the following update today in the comments section of the &lt;a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/08/29/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-public-beta-incoming/" target="_blank"&gt;original blog post&lt;/a&gt;:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sorry for the delay in starting the beta. It’s still going to happen and it’s still going to last for a week. We’re currently making sure it’s as stable as possible to make sure you’re getting the best version of the beta we can provide. This is taking a few days longer, so bear with us. We’ll have an update within the next seven days. It shouldn’t take that long to finish up, but better to give you the longest estimate. Obviously since we’re hoping to start the beta in the next week, we’ll be contacting those who made it onto the beta via email within that time.&lt;/p&gt;
